Type 2 diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease marked by high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Diabetes increases your risk for high blood pressure. The long-term stress of high blood pressure levels increases the risk of other diabetic complications such as stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), diabetic retinopathy, and nephropathy (kidney disease). In most cases of mild or even moderate hypertension, there are no symptoms. However, people with extremely elevated blood pressure may experience headaches, vision problems, abdominal or chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea. If you are diabetic and are experiencing any of these symptoms, or have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes with hypertension, you may be eligible to participate in one of our research studies of an investigational medication or the investigational use of approved medication for the treatment of hypertension.
