Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease of the lungs that makes breathing difficult. COPD is one of the most common lung diseases and it has two main forms: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Chronic bronchitis is defined by a long term cough with mucus, and emphysema is defined by destruction of lungs over time. Most people with COPD have a combination of both conditions. Symptoms of COPD include cough with mucus, wheezing, shortness of breath that worsens with activity, fatigue, and frequent respiratory infections. If you have been diagnosed with COPD, or are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be eligible to participate in a research study of an investigational medication for the treatment of COPD.
