Alzheimer's Disease is a progressive disease of the brain that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. In the early stages, memory loss is mild but in the later stages, individuals may lose awareness of their surroundings, exhibit changes in behavior and need assistance for their everyday personal care. Some early signs of Alzheimer’s include:
- Forgetting how to do routine things
- Struggling for common words
- Trouble learning new things
- Repeating phrases or stories in the same conversation
Since there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, the goal of treatment is to slow the disease progression and improve the quality of life of patients. Participating in research studies is also a viable option for those who are motivated by the valuable contribution they are making to help improve treatment for future patients.
